The putty knife is a versatile tool commonly used for various tasks in construction, woodworking, and DIY projects. The primary use of a putty knife is for applying and smoothing putty or filler on surfaces such as walls, wood, or other materials. The flexibility of the blade allows for better control and even application.

The putty knife can be used to scrape off old paint, wallpaper, or other adhesives from surfaces. The flexibility helps in getting into tight spaces and contouring to the surface. It can be used to scrape off debris, dried glue, or other unwanted materials from various surfaces. The flexible blade is useful for gentle scraping without damaging the underlying material.

When working with adhesives, such as glues or caulks, the putty knife can be used to spread and smooth the material for a clean and even application. For small drywall repairs, a flexible putty knife is handy for spreading joint compound and smoothing it over joints or imperfections in the wall. The narrow blade of a 1 1/2" putty knife makes it suitable for detailed and precision work, especially in tight or confined spaces
